Learning Lifelong Swimming Skills
We know that many parents choose Deerkill Day Camp because of the outstanding reputation of our swimming program. Our campers have a 40 minute period of daily swim instruction in a small group taught by American Red Cross certified instructors as well as a 40 minute “free swim” recreational period.
Our program’s core foundation is instructor training, individualized instruction, and safety. After many years, we have developed six levels (PDF) that will help your child learn lifelong skills at a pace that promotes achievement and success! In order to ensure that campers are given enough time to truly develop in the water, all campers swim twice daily in one of our three heated swimming pools.
Small Group Instruction
Instruction takes place in small groups (3:1 ratio) with children who have comparable swimming skills. Beginners receive instruction in shallow pools designed specifically for teaching younger children. Our instruction caters to all levels of experience, from the child still dipping their toes in the water to the child perfecting their advanced strokes. A key to our swim program’s success is the personalization of your child’s program. Each camper’s progress is monitored by their swim instructor to ensure they are learning at a pace that is just right for them.
Keep Track of your Child’s Progress
We know how important it is to keep you updated on your child’s progress in the pool. Deerkill has developed a skills checklist that is posted outside our main pool. Any time you come to visit the camp, whether it is during the week or on the weekend while enjoying our pool club, an updated report on your child’s weekly progress will be available. Additionally, a progress report is sent home mid summer as well as a swimming certificate at the end of your child’s session indicating the skills they achieved throughout the summer.
